On average, students can expect anywhere from $14,000 to $16,000 to complete their private pilot certificate. This price estimate includes additional expenses, such as medical exams, training books, headset, ground school programs, etc. We recognize that flight training is expensive, and our instructors will outline the best ways to save money and make your training as efficient as possible.
On average, most students spend about 1 year in flight training to receive their private pilot license. This can be significantly shorter, based on the frequency of lessons. Instructors and aircraft are available 7 days a week, and can accomodate your personal schedule.
DTPA accepts cash, checks, Zelle, and major credit cards. All cards (debit or credit) have a 3% fee.
DTPA uses a scheduling software called Flight Circle. During your first lesson, your instructor will create a free account, and you will be able to make reservations that suit your schedule.
As part of your training, you will be required to complete a ground school course (online or in-person) and then take the FAA knowledge test at the conclusion of the program. DTPA recommends the following online coures:

For all solo flights, or aircraft rentals without an authorized instructor on board - yes, you will be required to obtain renter's insurance. Your instructor can provide the coverage limits and recommendations for insurance companies.
In the event of bad weather, your instructor will directly contact you about delaying or rescheduling. There is no fee associated with a weather delay or cancellation. There is always the opportunity for ground instruction in lieu of flight training.
Life happens - we understand. If you are running late, or need to cancel last minute, please contact your instructor directly. First time cancellations are waived, but repeat offenses will be charged at the hourly rate of the aircraft and instructor.
Yes, we do! We offer private and commercial multi-engine ratings in our beautiful Piper Aztec, and the aircraft is available for time-building purposes, following a checkout flight with one of our instructors.
